Testimonials from visitors that went on As the Romans Do tours

"One of the best enterprises in Rome is As the Romans Do... Their private explorations are very comprehensive.. the most personalized of any other service.." --Frommer’s Guide Italy

What are the "must-sees" or top things to do in Rome?

That's practically an impossible question. There are hundreds of amazing monuments and they are all worth doing! If the answer you were looking for was Colosseum, Forum, Vatican, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, Jewish Ghetto, you might think Rome was too touristy to enjoy it. That's why you should book a tour with Julian, email and you will be able to enjoy it from a totally unique Jewish/American/Roman insider perspective!

How long should I stay in Rome?

Alan and Diane made their dream come true and stayed for 20 years. But if you are not ready to give up your family and friends just yet, at least 3 to 5 nights would be recommended.

How much time/how many tours should I book?

Julian says that spending 3 full days with him would be fantastic. You would become an honorary Roman! The first day you should see hidden Rome and some of the lesser known monuments, second-day Forum and Coliseum, third-day Italian culinary adventure!

Is an 8-hour walking tour too long for kids?

In his low season, Julian teaches English to Italian kids of all ages, and he is very good at engaging all different types of personalities. Since all of his tours are private, he is also very flexible when it comes to needs and wants. Gelato, a coffee or water break is never more than a few minutes away! A sit down lunch is also a nice time to relax and absorb all the great info. Rome has so many secrets and stories that entertainment is guaranteed.

Why should I book a private tour as opposed to a group tour or just "winging it"?

Rome's history is so extensive and there are truly very few people that are able to tell stories and present information in an entertaining, practical manner. Julian strives to be one of them. Most large group tours fail to give context to a list of boring, meaningless, very specific facts. A tour with Julian is extremely personalized based on your level of attention, your previous knowledge, the weather, and what is open that day. Strolling the streets and enjoying the beautiful architecture of Rome while talking about history, Italian and Roman traditions, religion, politics, living in Italy, eating and drinking customs are just not possible with an audioguide.

What's the weather like in Rome?

The climate in Rome is generally very pleasant. November and March are the most likely to be rainy. Spring and fall are mostly warm and sunny; from October to March it's perfectly normal to have sunny days in the 60°s F (15°C); Winters are mild, snow being an extremely rare occurrence. Cold spells are considered in the low 40°s F (5°C); The highs in June, July, and August are usually in the mid 80°s F (30°C) with a few weeks of a heat wave in the 90°s F (35°C) but with nice cool early mornings and breezy late evenings. Afternoon thunderstorms can sometimes occur.

The best months to travel to Italy are... all year round!
