Diane Epstein, an American fine art photographer, has made Italy her home. Her keen eye weaves a direct connection between the work and vision of the original painters and architects of Ancient and Renaissance Rome, and other old-world cities. With her own innovative form of photography Epstein has created a distinctive fresco-inspired technique that reflects a mystical character and textural, timeless quality. She revives the large-scale narrative painting, offering breathtaking vistas of another time, with continual revelation of often-overlooked details. The signature style of Epstein Photography is the modern-day fresco, layering multiple images of ethereal architecture of ancient sites dissolving into elaborate displays and spectral visions of what lies beneath the surface. Her palette incorporates the purity of color that remain on walls from pigments used by the Roman artists of the past, including burnt ochre, sienna and amber, as well as misty blue and pewter. Epstein also touches on the mystery of place and time with her sepia-toned images of European street scenes.
